Healing the Whole Person: Body, Mind, Spirit with Paula Chichester
About this workshop
This workshop will offer a few simple exercises to explore how our breath and movement can affect the winds (or prana or chi) that flow in our bodies. These winds govern the state of all the systems in our body, including the nervous system. In these times, especially now with the stress of lockdown, most of us often experience the nervous system in its fight or flight mode, the mode of excitement and activity. We become accustomed to abiding in an over-active state of being. Over time, this can lead to physical illness or unbalanced mental states.
The essence of the ancient healing traditions, whether we choose yoga or chi gong or lu jong, etc., all use breath, imagination and movement to switch the winds into the slowed down and relaxed parasympathetic nervous system where healing naturally occurs. Balanced winds produce inner states of well being. We come home to inner peace, connectedness and clarity, where we can allow afflictive emotions to open into gratitude and love, compassion and understanding, so we can function in all aspects of life from a state of wellness and wisdom and find our way into wholeness when stress overtakes us.
About Paula Chichester
Paula is a student of healing through body work, yoga, dance, meditation and buddhism since she was a teenager. She is known for leading experiential Buddhist meditations that are based in breath and body awareness. Choosing an unusual life, she gave up livelihood, home and family in 1982 to devote the life to intensive practice and study in isolated hermitages for 35 years or more, following the traditional path of the yogi in Lama Tsong Khapa’s Ear Whispered Lineage under the direction of Kyabje Thubten Zopa Rinpoche. Her university training in the systems approach to ecosystem management and earlier years of yoga, chi gong, holistic healing and dance transformed and informed her adventure into the world of traditional Tibetan Buddhism.
