Losar (Tibetan New Year)
February 12, 2021 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 pm

About the Event
Losar is the festival marking the New Year according to the Tibetan lunisolar calendar, and in 2021 it signifies the beginning of the Gold Ox year of 2148. As with any new year celebration, it is an opportunity to take stock and reflect on what renewal means to us personally.
Ordinarily, we would celebrate Losar at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, but of course this year will have to be different. We won’t be able to come together physically, but we will do the best we can virtually, making the most of this time with a programme of pujas and practices that will take place both on Losar and on Day of Miracles.
Schedule
- 07:00 – 08:00 | Taking Mahayana Precepts with Venerable Barbara
- 09:00 – 10:00 | Shakyamuni Buddha Puja with Venerable Barbara
- 18:00 – 19:30 | Medicine Buddha Puja with Steff Hill
Sutra Recitation
The period between Losar and Day of Miracles is considered particularly auspicious for the accumulation of merit, and so we invite you to recite scriptures with us and submit the number of recitations that you complete. We will then dedicate the merit to FPMT’s Spiritual Director, Lama Zopa Rinpoche. The texts that we will be reciting include:
- Golden Light Sutra
- Golden Light Sutra (just the chapter on Confession, or Chapter 4)
- Vajra Cutter Sutra
- Chanting the Names of Manjushri
- Heart Sutra
If you would like to participate, please choose which text(s) you want to recite and let us know how many recitations you have completed by emailing [email protected] by midnight on 27th February (Day of Miracles).
