Mahayana Mind Training (Weekend 2)
July 2 @ 10:00 am - July 3 @ 3:00 pm
About the Course
Jamyang Buddhist Centre London is currently midway through its current cycle of Basic Programme, an in-depth study programme on Buddhist philosophy and practice that has been designed by FPMT. Although registration for full enrolment has closed, we are opening up each subject to Observer students. Observers will be able to watch the teachings via a private YouTube link, and will have their own Q&A session with Geshe Namdak at the end of each weekend.
Please do not register if you are already fully-enrolled as a Basic Programme student.
PLEASE NOTE: Recordings of these teachings be available for a limited time after the live teachings. Attendance as an observer student does not count as credit towards course certification.
About this subject
Over the course of three weekends between June 2022 and September 2022, Geshe Namdak will teach on the practice known as Lojong, often translated as ‘mind training’ or ‘thought transformation’. By employing practical instructions that can be applied to everyday situations, mind training techniques help us to transform mundane experiences into a path of limitless compassion, and allow us to use our challenges and struggles as the food that nourishes our hope, courage and joy.
Is this for me?
Students will derive the greatest benefit if they have familiarity with fundamental Buddhists concepts and the Mahayana tradition, for example: by having attended one of the introductory or foundational FPMT programmes, such as Discovering Buddhism.
- Saturday | 10:00 – 16:10
- Sunday | 10:00 – 15:00
Finish times are provisional. Please allow a degree of flexibility, as teachings may occasionally run over.
About Geshe Namdak
Geshe Tenzin Namdak first worked as an environmental researcher having graduated in hydrology from Van Hall Larenstein University, The Netherlands. He started studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute in 1993 and took ordination from His Holiness the Dalai Lama before engaging in his formal studies in Buddhist philosophy and psychology at Sera Jey Monastic University, South India, in 1997. He completed the entire twenty-year Geshe program at Sera Jey in 2017 and the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College in January 2019, the first Westerner to do so. Currently, he is the resident teacher at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, London, and teaches worldwide. Because of his deep interest and background in science, and as a member of Sera Jey’s Education Department, he spoke on and organised various dialogues and conferences on contemporary science and ancient Buddhist contemplative wisdom of the mind and its philosophy.
