Sayings of the Buddha

Sayings of the Buddha

COURSE with With Rhona Sayer

EVERY WED | 19:00 - 20:30 | 9 - 30 JAN

/ABOUT

In the Tibetan tradition is a translation of a collection of saying attributed to the historical Buddha called Udanavarga. This collection is highly prized and is one of the six main texts of the Kadam tradition, The Tibetan Buddhist tradition founded the Bengali Buddhist practitioner scholar Atisha. This tradition eventually merged into the Geluk tradition from the 15th century onwards.

The sayings are short pithy and rich with meaning when contemplated and meditated on. Quite a few years ago Geshe Tashi Tsering, the previous resident teacher at Jamyang taught excerpts from this text as part of programme to introduce students to the Indian Buddhist Scriptures preserved in Tibetan translations and to the ‘Nalanda tradition’ of Indian Buddhist practice with scholarship.
