Tai Chi: 7.15 - 8.15 pm
Tai Chi (here called ‘Lam Style Tai Chi’) consists of slow movements accompanied by natural breathing that calms your mind and lifts your spirits, improving both mental and physical health. Classes sometimes include tai chi (dragon) sword and shaolin stick.
Chi Kung (lit. energy exercise) taught here is called Zhan Zhuang (‘standing like a tree’). Well known for its health qualities and its martial roots. Standing still, rooted and relaxed, is also an excellent basis for the embodiment, mental
calmness and alertness, needed for meditation practice.
CLASS LEADER William Walker
William began his practice of Chi Kung in the early 90’s after a temporary injury. Living at the time in Singapore he was introduced to Master Xie Li and ‘Kong Jin Chi Kung’. In 1994 William started training in Zhan Zhuang Chi Kung with Master Lam Kam-Chuen in London and subsequently became an instructor within ‘The Lam Association’, being given permission to teach Chi Kung, Tai Chi and Wudang Dragon Sword Form.
Since 1999 William has taught weekly classes in Chi Kung and Tai Chi, at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, south London. He has also led workshops and taught privately. William has followed courses and retreats in mindfulness and meditation as well as studied Buddhism at Jamyang Buddhist Centre. He has masters’ degrees in Theology and Philosophy of religion and a long-term interest in Eastern philosophy.
