SUMMARY:Medicine Buddha Puja
DESCRIPTION:About Medicine Buddha Puja \n\nIn Person Only\n\nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting. \nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs  “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. It is written in the scriptures that you should not have a two-pointed mind (doubt) with regard to these benefits”. \nHow can I join?\nJust turn up!

SUMMARY:Recovery Dharma
DESCRIPTION:About this event \n\nIn-person Only\n\n A weekly meeting of Recovery Dharma\, a peer-led group that uses Buddhist practices and principles to find freedom from the suffering of addiction. Our program uses The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path as a guide for our recovery. Meetings are a chance to come together to support recovery through the practice of mindfulness\, self-inquiry\, meditation\, study of the Dharma\, listening to each other\, and building community. \nWhat can I expect? \nEach meeting offers short readings\, a 15-20 minute meditation\, and group sharing in a compassionate\, non-judgemental space. Our meetings are free\, relying on the generosity of members to support our meeting space where possible. We ask attendees to respect the anonymity and confidentiality of all participants. \nWhat this is for?  \nRecovery Dharma welcomes anyone who is looking to heal from addiction and addictive behavior\, whether it involves substance use or process addictions like gambling\, compulsive use of sex or relationships\, technology\, codependency\, eating disorders\, self-harm\, or any obsessive or habitual pattern that creates suffering. \nYou do not have to identify as a Buddhist nor have any experience of meditation to attend; this is a program of empowerment and doesn’t ask us to believe in anything other than our own potential to change and heal. \nAbout the facilitator \nThis meeting is facilitated by volunteers from the Recovery Dharma London Sangha.  \nRecovery Dharma is a Buddhist-inspired non-profit peer-led movement that is unified by our trust in the potential of each of us to heal from addiction. More information at recoverydharma.org \nHow to join?\nNo need of booking\, people are welcome to just turn up. \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: This event is hosted at Jamyang Buddhist Centre but is independently organised and facilitated by a third party. SUMMARY:Chittamani Tara Puja
DESCRIPTION:Chittamani (Mind Jewel) Tara\, is the Highest Yoga Tantra form of Tara\, the female Buddha. \nThe benefits of Tara practice according to Lama Zopa Rinpoche: \nTara is quick to grant success in obtaining the ultimate happiness of enlightenment. You receive much good merit\, or cause of happiness; it prevents a suffering rebirth in your next life; you receive initiation from millions of buddhas; and you achieve enlightenment. Besides these\, however\, Tara practice has many other benefits. Reciting the Twenty-one Taras’ prayer with devotion\, at dawn or dusk—or remembering Tara\, singing praises and reciting mantras at any time of the day or night—protects you from fear and dangers\, and fulfill all your wishes. If you pray to Tara\, Tara is particularly quick to grant help. \nThis practice is restricted to practitioners who hold a Highest Yoga Tantra empowerment \nPlease register using the link below before attending this event. \nAs part of our commitment to care for your spiritual wellbeing\, and that of our teachers and the center as a whole\, we kindly ask everyone who wishes to engage in this practice answer a few short questions about their practice background. Please click the button below to enquire about how to join for this practice. \nRegister Here

At the age of three he was recognised and enthroned as the sixth incarnation of the abbot of Jhado Monastery. From 1992 to 1996 Rinpoche taught at Namgyal Monastery in Dharamsala\, the personal monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 1997 he was appointed its Abbot\, serving in that role until 2004. \n\n\n\nHe is held to be one of the most highly esteemed Lamas in the Geluk lineage today\, having received many oral transmissions and empowerments from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his two main tutors\, and from great teachers of other traditions – among them the Nyingma masters Trulshik Rinpoche and Chogye Trichen Rinpoche. \n  \n\n\n\nTeaching Schedule\n\n\n\nKalachakra Initiation\n\n\n\nWith Teachings on the Three Principal Aspects of the Path and Lojong. Register here. \n  \n\n\n\nPrerequisites for Attendance\n\n\n\nAttending the initiations and jenangs is best suited for those who have a good understanding of the Lam Rim and the Three Principal Aspects of the Path. Attendees of the Cittamani Tara initiation and the Lama Chopa commentary must have already received a Highest Yoga Tantra initiation (such as the Kalachakra initiation that will take place prior). \n\n\n\nAttending the initiations and jenangs means receiving the corresponding commitments – it is not possible to attend them as a blessing. \n  \n\n\n\nCommitments\n\n\n\nThe Kalachakra initiation and the Cittamani Tara initiation come with the normal commitments of refuge\, bodhisattva vows and tantric vows\, as well as the twice-daily Six Session Guru Yoga sadhana commitment. In addition to those\, the Cittamani Tara initiation comes with a daily commitment to recite the Cittamani Tara Guru Yoga sadhana. \n\n\n\nThe Lama Chopa commentary does not have a daily recitation commitment\, as Rinpoche will not be giving an experiential commentary. The Lama Tsongkhapa jenang and the Medicine Buddha jenang are given with the Bodhisattva vows. \n\n\n\nPlease note: these commitments may change\, and Rinpoche may choose to give additional commitments when giving the initiations. \n  \n\n\n\nTranslation\n\n\n\nSpanish translation will be available. \n  \n\n\n\nOnline Attendance\n\n\n\nOnline attendance is only available for the Sutrayana teachings on the Three Principal Aspects of the Path and Lojong during the first half of the first day\, beginning at 13:00 on 9 September. \n  \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nTickets are available for: \n\n\n\n\nKalachakra Initiation and accompanying teachings – In-person\, Days 1 & 2 (combined)\nCittamani Tara Initiation and accompanying teachings – In-person\, Day 3\nLama Chopa Commentary and accompanying Jenangs – In-person\, Days 4 & 5 (combined)\nEntire Event\, In-person\nDay 1 Teachings – Online only\n\n\n\n\nIf you would like to attend the sutra teachings on a day when there is also an initiation\, it is your responsibility to leave before the initiation is given. \n\n\n\n\nBook Your Place\n\n \n \n\n\n\nScholarships\n\n\n\nA limited number of scholarships of various sizes are available for those who require financial assistance to attend the teachings.

SUMMARY:The Old Courthouse Tour: Behind the Cell Doors
DESCRIPTION:Step inside one of London’s most unusual heritage buildings — a Victorian criminal court that is now a Buddhist centre. \n  \n  \n  \nBuilt in 1869 as Lambeth Police Court and later Lambeth Magistrates’ Court\, this was retained from around 1970 as a high-security court for sensitive and high-risk cases\, using its enclosed layout and original cell block\, until it closed in 1990. On this guided tour you’ll see the former courtroom — where a Buddha now sits in the place once occupied by the magistrate — along with the witness box\, the Victorian cells\, which today serve as overnight accommodation\, and more. Hear about the building’s life as a court\, the cases and folklore attached to its high-security years\, and how it came to be reborn in 1995 as Jamyang Buddhist Centre. Grade II listed as the earliest surviving criminal magistrates’ court in the Metropolitan area. \n  \n  \n  \nJamyang Buddhist Centre\, The Old Courthouse\, 43 Renfrew Road\, Kennington\, SE11 4NA \n  \n  \n  \nRegister for free below (limited spaces available)
