SUMMARY:Bereavement Café
DESCRIPTION:The Bereavement Cafe is an open drop-in session for people who have experienced a bereavement\, where they can join others in a safe facilitated space and a kind and friendly atmosphere. \n\nThe session has no set agenda\, and is open for people to share their experiences and feelings\, or just come to listen to others\, relevant poetry is very welcome\, there will also be some time at the end to chat and mingle with refreshments in the Jamyang cafe space.\n\nAlthough the café is held in a Buddhist centre it is a secular get together. \nFacilitators \nDiana Opio\, as a trained nurse has been working in palliative care for several decades.  She has also helped set up and run palliative care academic programmes in East Africa. More recently she has become increasingly interested in aspects of spirituality at the end of life and has trained as a soul midwife and has run many death cafes. \nRobin Bath a trustee and community member of Jamyang London Buddhist Centre since its debut. Over the years\, he has supported the centre in infinite ways\, as an artist\, poet\, and photographer. He is also the organiser of the ‘Jamyang Walks’\, the ‘Dying Well’ meetings\, and volunteers for the ‘Repaying the Kindness\, Carers Group’. He recently published ‘Climate Change Children’s Voices‘. \nPlease note: \nBereavement Café is a space for open and confidential discussion. It is not a counselling or support service. If you are recently bereaved and are seeking professional support\, please contact your GP or a relevant service for advice\, such as Cruse Bereavement Care. \nHow to join? \nThe space is limited\, so we suggest you save your spot ahead of time. DESCRIPTION:About Rainbow Sangha Coffee Chats | LGBTQ+ Gathering\nRainbow Sangha Coffee Chats is a dedicated space for LGBTQ+ identified folks who are interested in meditation\, Buddhist study and discussion about LGBTQ+ identity. \nOur in-person gatherings for the Rainbow Sangha are a dedicated space for Queer identified or LGBTQ+ identified people who are studying Buddhism or are practicing Buddhists and are interested in sharing experiences with others as part of our affinity group at Jamyang.   \nBuilding off the momentum of our gatherings last year\, this space seeks to affirm and uplift LGBTQ+ members of the Jamyang community. DESCRIPTION:About this event \nAt a Death Cafe people\, often strangers\, gather to eat cake\, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives’. \nA Death Cafe is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda\, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. Death Cafe was founded by Jon Underwood\, a beloved student at Jamyang Buddhist Centre London and a pioneer in opening up the conversation about death. \nTeas\, coffees and a variety of delicious vegan cakes are available for a modest price in our onsite Kindness Café \nEvent Format \n\nIt is a group-directed discussion with no agenda or theme.\nIt is a secular experience.\nIn an accessible\, respectful\, and confidential space.\nWith no intention of leading people to any conclusion\, outcome or course of action.\nIt is a discussion group rather than a grief support or a counselling session.\n\n  \nFacilitators \n  \nVenerable Barbara Shannon\, is a fully ordained nun\, former NHS nurse\, and a long-standing member of the Jamyang Buddhist Centre London. She is actively engaged in the local London communities helping people with issues around death and dying. She regularly leads the Death Cafe at Centre\, with her unique and engaging style of presenting. \n  \nDiana Opio\, as a trained nurse has been working in palliative care for several decades.  She has also helped set up and run palliative care academic programmes in East Africa. More recently she has become increasingly interested in aspects of spirituality at the end of life and has trained as a soul midwife and has run many death cafes. \n  \n  \nPlease note: \n  \nDeath Cafe is space for open and confidential discussion. It is not a bereavement counselling or support service. If you are recently bereaved and are seeking professional support\, please contact your GP or a relevant service for advice\, such as Cruse Bereavement Care. \n  \n  \nHow to join? \nThe space is limited\, so we suggest saving your spot ahead of time. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting. \nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs  “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting. \nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs  “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms.
