SUMMARY:Compassionate Activism | with Venerable Robina
DESCRIPTION:March is International Women’s Month at Jamyang! An opportunity to spotlight some of the incredible female teachers in our rich tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Join Venerable Robina for this two-part online teaching all about how to practice Compassionate Activism\, and why doing so is especially relevant for our time. \nWhat is Compassionate Activism? \nThe point of Buddhist practice is finally to help others: compassion in action. But our actions – helping our next-door neighbour or helping stop the destruction of the planet – need to be grounded in wisdom. As the Dalai Lama says\, “Compassion is not enough; we need wisdom.” \nFirst we need to develop our own marvelous potential to live our lives with self-confidence\, contentment\, and courage. The key to success is to recognize our own suffering and how it’s caused by our own attachment and anger\, as well as other unhappy emotions. We become intimately familiar with our mind – the whole spectrum of our thoughts\, feelings\, and emotions – and learn to unravel and deconstruct them and\, finally\, change them. As Lama Zopa Rinpoche says\, “We can mold our mind into any shape we like.” \nNow we can go beyond our narrow sense of self and realize everyone else is in the same boat\, now we can begin to be of benefit to others. This brings optimism and confidence that every small action counts and we develop the courage to never give up. The great bodhisattvas are fierce in their determination to never give up on sentient beings. \nAbout the Teacher \nOrdained since the late 1970s\, Ven. Robina has worked full time since then for Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s FPMT. Over the years she has served as editorial director of Wisdom Publications\, editor of Mandala Magazine\, executive director of Liberation Prison Project\, and as a touring teacher of Buddhism. Her life and work with prisoners have been featured in the documentary films Chasing Buddha and Key to Freedom. \nSchedule \nSession 1: Friday 20th March\, 7pm – 8:30pm GMT\nSession 2: Friday 27th March\, 7pm – 8:30pm GMT \nHow to Join? \nThese teachings are offered entirely online. Please register below to receive the zoom link. \nDonation \nJamyang operates on a generosity model. Please select the donation option that is most suitable for your situation. \nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. The donations\, or Dana\, given when registering for events and teachings support the Centre’s operations\, allowing us to deliver our activities. If you’re able to give a little more\, that’s wonderful; if a little less\, that’s fine too. These donations help with essentials like feeding residential volunteers\, housing our monastics\, and keeping our doors open. However\, we wish to emphasise that the Dharma is always offered freely and no-one is ever excluded because of their financial status\, please do not hesitate to request a reduced rate. \n\nFor Monastics \nWe would like to offer this teaching to ordained sangha members free of charge. If you are ordained sangha please register here.

DESCRIPTION:About this teaching\nThis February Yangten Rinpoche will continue his online Saturday morning teachings for the Jamyang community. Following on from his teachings given last year\, Rinpoche will continue his explanation of Lama Tsongkhapa’s revered text\, In Praise of Dependent Origination. The verses\, written after Lama Tsongkhapa attained enlightenment\, express unbounded reverence for the profound reasoning taught by the Buddha so that we may realise emptiness\, the ultimate nature of reality\, and thereby liberate ourselves and others from the suffering of cyclic existence. \nA recording of last years’ teaching can be found at on the Jamyang YouTube channel. Rinpoche will also most likely give a summary of what was covered last time for anyone who was unable to attend the earlier sessions. Students joining for the first time are very welcome. \n  \nAbout the teacher\nBorn in the Kham region of Tibet\, Yangten Rinpoche was recognised as the reincarnation of his predecessor at the age of 10. Since 2008\, at the personal behest of His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, Yangten Rinpoche has been working at the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in various capacities. For the past few years Rinpoche has been offering teachings at Jamyang\, including his teachings on Tsongkhapa’s Song of Experience\, the Ten Innermost Jewels of the Kadam\, as well as dialgoues with Science & Wisdom Live. Click here to read Rinpoche’s full bio. \n  \nAbout the translator\nGeshe Kelsang Wangmo is a German-born Buddhist nun\, scholar\, and teacher. SUMMARY:In Praise of Dependent Origination\, Part 2 | Yangten Rinpoche
DESCRIPTION:About this teaching\nThis February we welcome Yangten Rinpoche back to Jamyang\, this time for an online teaching. \nThere is no recording of last years’ teaching available unfortunately but don’t worry if you missed it\, Rinpoche will most likely give a summary of what was covered last time. Students joining for the first time are very welcome. \n  \nSchedule \n\nSaturday\, 22nd February: 10am – 12 midday\n\n  \nAbout the teacher\nBorn in the Kham region of Tibet\, Yangten Rinpoche was recognised as the reincarnation of his predecessor at the age of 10. An alumnus of the illustrious Sera Monastery\, he graduated with the highest possible degree of Lharampa Geshe before completing his studies at Gyuto Tantric College. She is the first woman to ever be awarded the title of Geshe. We are honoured to have her translating for Yangten Rinpoche. \n  \nHow to join\nRegister below to attend. \n  \nDonation\nJamyang operates on a generosity model. However\, we wish to emphasise that the Dharma is always offered freely and no-one is ever excluded because of their financial status.
