SUMMARY:What Happens When We Die? Meditation on Death | Geshe Tenzin Namdak
DESCRIPTION:About this teaching\nThe Buddha taught that of all mindfulness meditations\, mindfulness of death is supreme. Even the moment of his own death was used as a teaching on the ephemerality of our existence. The Buddha’s last words exhorted his disciples to remember that all compounded phenomena are subject to decay\, to spur them on in their quest for liberation. \nContemplation on death can be a destabilising exercise\, but like many things that push us out of our comfort zone\, great value can often be found in it. When we truly internalise the notion of our own impermanence\, we are motivated to make the most of our lives\, cultivating a disinterest in the superficial and mundane pursuits that we normally spend our days being distracted by. And when we reflect deeply on the subjective experience of the dying process\, outlined in meticulous detail in the Buddhist scriptures\, we prepare ourselves for our own final hour. \nDrawing upon the traditional meditation structure of the three roots used to develop conviction in the inevitability of our death\, as well as the schema of the death dissolutions which delineates the stages of consciousness that occur at the time of death\, Geshe Tenzin Namdak will equip us with techniques to meditate on this profound topic. \nAbout Geshe Tenzin Namdak\nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyume Tantric College. He is now Resident Teacher of Jamyang London Buddhist Centre. \nSchedule \n\n10:00 – 11:30\n12:00 – 13:00\n14:30 – 15:30\n16:00 – 17:00\n\nRecordings\nRecordings of the sessions will be made available to those who have registered shortly after the event. \nHow to join\nBook your ticket below.
