SUMMARY:Taking the Eight Mahayana Precepts for Lhabab Duchen
DESCRIPTION:Geshe Namdak will lead us in taking the eight mahayana precepts on the morning of Lhabab Duchen – Sunday 1st November \n  \nWhat is Lhabab Duchen? \nLhabab Duchen is one of the four great holy days of the Buddhist calendar\, which this year falls on November 1st. \nLhabab Duchen celebrates Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s return to Earth from the God Realm of the Thirty-Three after teaching Dharma for three months to the gods\, including his mother\, Mayadevi\, who had died a week after Buddha’s birth and been reborn there. As a merit multiplying day\, the karmic results of actions done on this day are multiplied 100 million times. This amazing result is taught in the vinaya text Treasure of Quotations and Logic. \n  \nWhat are the eight Mahayana Precepts? \nTaking the eight Mahayana precepts was a practice recommended by Lama Zopa Rinpoche for merit-multiplying days such as this. These 24-hour precepts are a powerful and effective way for you to build\, maintain and increase deep propensities for spiritual practice and attainment and thus is a profound method for giving meaning to your precious human life. \nPlease note: we will be taking the precepts from the altar\, therefore you do not need to consider Geshe Namdak to be one of your teachers in order to participate in this event. \n  \nWhen? \n8am – 9am on Sunday 1st November \n  \nHow to join? \nThis session is being offered hybrid. You are welcome to come and participate from the Jamyang gompa or join online over zoom. Please RSVP below to help us plan effectively. You will then receive a confirmation email with the Zoom link. \n  \nIs this for me? \nSome familiarity with Buddhist vows is recommended.
