SUMMARY:Sunday Dharma Talks
DESCRIPTION:Curious about Buddhism\, or looking to reconnect with its timeless wisdom in everyday life? Our Sunday Dharma Talks offer a welcoming and relaxed space to explore Buddhist teachings in a way that is both practical and relatable. \nThese informal talks are led by a rotating group of experienced Buddhist teachers and meditation instructors\, each bringing many years of lived practice to their teaching. On the third Sunday of each month\, they share insights drawn from the Buddhist tradition and from real life – speaking in a down-to-earth way that meets us exactly where we are. \nEach session includes time for reflection\, open discussion\, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions\, whether you’re completely new to Buddhism or have been practising for years. And of course\, there’s space to relax\, connect with others\, and enjoy a cuppa together after the talk. \nEveryone is welcome – no prior experience is needed. \n  \nThis month we’re honoured to be hosting Lama Zangmo who has kindly offered to speak about how to measure progress in meditation. \nHow do we know the practice is ‘working’? How do we know we are doing it correctly and we are not fooling ourselves? Lama Zangmo will look at some of the slogans from the Mind Training teachings which help us to evaluate our meditation practice. The slogans help us to look at our mind more clearly and use whatever arises\, whether pleasant or painful\, as part of the path. \nLama Gelongma Zangmo became a practising Buddhist when she arrived at Kagyu Samye Ling in 1977 and took refuge with His Holiness the 16th Karmapa\, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje. After spending some years in retreat\, in 1998 she was asked by Akong Tulku Rinpoche to set up and run the Kagyu Samye Dzong London Centre.\n\n\nFormat: Hybrid\nSuggested donation: £15\n\n\nHow to Join? \nSign up below or just show up on the day! \nDonation \nJamyang operates on a generosity model. Please select the donation option that is most suitable for your situation. \nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. The donations\, or Dana\, given when registering for events and teachings support the Centre’s operations\, allowing us to deliver our activities. If you’re able to give a little more\, that’s wonderful; if a little less\, that’s fine too. These donations help with essentials like feeding residential volunteers\, housing our monastics\, and keeping our doors open. You can also request a reduced rate. \n\nFor Monastics \nWe would like to offer this talk to ordained sangha members for free. If you are ordained sangha please register here.

SUMMARY:Inner Wellbeing in Buddhist Mind Science
DESCRIPTION:About the event \nJoin us for a day of exploration and practice dedicated to understanding the mind and cultivating genuine inner wellbeing. \nThis 1 day retreat experience balances theory with practice — drawing on the rich philosophical and contemplative traditions found in Buddhism and synthesizing this with the latest scientific evidence — offering practical tools for working with the mind that are both accessible and relevant for the busyness of modern life. \nThroughout the day\, we will explore the Buddhist understanding of the mind\, emotions\, as well as the roots of happiness and suffering. Through teachings\, guided meditation\, and reflective inquiry\, participants will be introduced to key concepts such as the role of attention\, the nature of disturbing emotions\, and the cultivation of wholesome mental states. These insights are grounded in centuries of careful contemplative investigation and offer a remarkably detailed map of inner experience that speaks to the universal human aspiration to live with greater ease\, clarity\, and warmth. \nWhether you are new to meditation\, a seasoned practitioner\, or simply curious about what Buddhist mind science has to offer the modern world\, this 1 day retreat experience provides a welcoming and intellectually engaging space to deepen your understanding of the mind and take home practical methods for your everyday life. \n \n  \nAbout the Teacher \nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Tenzin Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He began studying Buddhism at Maitreya Institute and was eventually ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama before completing the 20-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey monastic university in India\, as well as the traditional one-year Vajrayana study program at Gyumé Tantric College. He is now Resident Teacher at Jamyang London Buddhist Centre. \n  \nSchedule \nWe’ve tried to make the schedule for the day as spacious as possible whilst still packing a lot in. During the breaks we invite you to enjoy tea\, coffee and cake in our newly opened café! \n\n10:00 – 11:30: Session 1\n11:30 – 12:00: Break\n12:00 – 13:00: Session 2\n13:00 – 14:30: Break\n14:30 – 16:00: Session 3\n\n  \nRecordings \nRecordings of the sessions will be made available to those who have registered shortly after the event. \n  \nHow to join \nBook your ticket below and choose whether you would like to attend in-person or online. The Zoom link will be included in your confirmation email. \n  \nDonation \nJamyang operates on a generosity model.
\nFormat: Hybrid (In-person & on zoom)\nWhen: Third Sunday of each month\nSuggested donation: £15 per session \nHow to Join? \nThe teaching will take place at Jamyang with the option to join remotely over zoom. Please select the relevant option when registering below. However\, we wish to emphasise that the Dharma is always offered freely and no-one is ever excluded because of their financial status\, please do not hesitate to request a reduced rate. \n\nFor Monastics \nWe would like to offer this teaching to ordained sangha members for free. If you are ordained sangha please register here.
