SUMMARY:Medicine Buddha Puja
DESCRIPTION:About Medicine Buddha Puja \n\nIn Person Only\n\nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting. \nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs  “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. It is written in the scriptures that you should not have a two-pointed mind (doubt) with regard to these benefits”. \nHow can I join?\nJust turn up!

SUMMARY:Compassionate Activism | with Venerable Robina
DESCRIPTION:March is International Women’s Month at Jamyang! An opportunity to spotlight some of the incredible female teachers in our rich tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Join Venerable Robina for this two-part online teaching all about how to practice Compassionate Activism\, and why doing so is especially relevant for our time. \nWhat is Compassionate Activism? \nThe point of Buddhist practice is finally to help others: compassion in action. But our actions – helping our next-door neighbour or helping stop the destruction of the planet – need to be grounded in wisdom. As the Dalai Lama says\, “Compassion is not enough; we need wisdom.” \nFirst we need to develop our own marvelous potential to live our lives with self-confidence\, contentment\, and courage. The key to success is to recognize our own suffering and how it’s caused by our own attachment and anger\, as well as other unhappy emotions. We become intimately familiar with our mind – the whole spectrum of our thoughts\, feelings\, and emotions – and learn to unravel and deconstruct them and\, finally\, change them. As Lama Zopa Rinpoche says\, “We can mold our mind into any shape we like.” \nNow we can go beyond our narrow sense of self and realize everyone else is in the same boat\, now we can begin to be of benefit to others. This brings optimism and confidence that every small action counts and we develop the courage to never give up. The great bodhisattvas are fierce in their determination to never give up on sentient beings. \nAbout the Teacher \nOrdained since the late 1970s\, Ven. Robina has worked full time since then for Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s FPMT. Over the years she has served as editorial director of Wisdom Publications\, editor of Mandala Magazine\, executive director of Liberation Prison Project\, and as a touring teacher of Buddhism. Her life and work with prisoners have been featured in the documentary films Chasing Buddha and Key to Freedom. \nSchedule \nSession 1: Friday 20th March\, 7pm – 8:30pm GMT\nSession 2: Friday 27th March\, 7pm – 8:30pm GMT \nHow to Join? \nThese teachings are offered entirely online. Please register below to receive the zoom link. \nDonation \nJamyang operates on a generosity model. Please select the donation option that is most suitable for your situation. \nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. The donations\, or Dana\, given when registering for events and teachings support the Centre’s operations\, allowing us to deliver our activities. If you’re able to give a little more\, that’s wonderful; if a little less\, that’s fine too. These donations help with essentials like feeding residential volunteers\, housing our monastics\, and keeping our doors open. However\, we wish to emphasise that the Dharma is always offered freely and no-one is ever excluded because of their financial status\, please do not hesitate to request a reduced rate. \n\nFor Monastics \nWe would like to offer this teaching to ordained sangha members free of charge. If you are ordained sangha please register here.

SUMMARY:Lama Chopa and Tsog Offering (Guru Puja)
DESCRIPTION:Lama Chopa (also known as Guru Puja) is a practice of guru devotion special to the Gelugpa tradition. During this practice\, the lamas of the graduated path lineage beginning with Shakyamuni Buddha himself\, are invoked\, extending to present direct teachers who have shown the path. Practitioners pay homage\, make offerings\, and request each of them to please bless their minds with the same realizations that they themselves have generated. By offering sincere\, heartfelt requests\, students make their minds ripe to receive the full blessings of this precious lineage and quickly actualize the realizations they need to attain enlightenment. If you wish to experience realizations quickly\, the practice of Lama Chopa is indispensable. \nThe benefits of the practice according to Lama Zopa Rinpoche: \nPracticing this Guru Puja\, which is an integration of the three deities\, makes it much easier to achieve enlightenment in a brief life of this degenerated time. Doing this practice every day\, with purification and many infinite skies of merit\, brings the mind closer to the path to enlightenment and closer to enlightenment itself\, and so much closer to freeing all sentient beings from obscurations and suffering and leading them to enlightenment. Putting the meaning of this into practice in one’s life makes each day extremely rich and worthwhile. \nThis practice is restricted to practitioners who hold a Highest Yoga Tantra empowerment \nPlease register using the link below before attending this event. \nAs part of our commitment to care for your spiritual wellbeing\, and that of our teachers and the center as a whole\, we kindly ask everyone who wishes to engage in this practice answer a few short questions about their practice background. Please click the button below to enquire about how to join for this practice. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Āryadeva’s Four Hundred Verses
DESCRIPTION:About this course \nOver the course of seven months\, we will undertake a close and contemplative study of one of the most profound yet practically oriented texts of the Madhyamaka tradition: Four Hundred Verses on the Middle Way (Catuḥśataka) by the great master Āryadeva. \nComposed as a complete path of training\, the Four Hundred Verses occupies a unique place within Mahayana Buddhism. While deeply rooted in Nāgārjuna’s vision of emptiness\, it is especially valued for its step-by-step guidance on how to transform the mind in preparation for realizing the ultimate truth. For this reason\, the text has long been cherished as both a philosophical treatise and a manual for yogic training. \nThe text is structured into sixteen chapters of twenty-five verses each. The first eight chapters focus on the collection of merit\, systematically dismantling unwholesome patterns of thought and behaviour that obstruct the path. Without this ethical and psychological groundwork\, Āryadeva makes clear\, realization of emptiness is impossible. The second eight chapters then turn to the collection of wisdom\, offering incisive reasoning that leads the practitioner toward a correct understanding of reality according to the Madhyamaka view. \nĀryadeva famously summarises this progression as follows: \nAt first\, turn away from non-virtue;\nIn the middle\, dispel misconceptions of self;\nFinally\, go beyond all philosophical views –\n One who understands this is wise indeed.\n (Four Hundred Verses\, VIII.15) \nThroughout the course\, Geshe Namdak will illuminate how the Four Hundred Verses functions as a bridge between ethical self-transformation and profound philosophical insight\, and how it complements and prepares the ground for later Madhyamaka classics such as Entering the Middle Way and Commentary on Bodhicitta. \nThis course offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with a text that trains the mind not only to understand emptiness\, but to become fit to realize it. \n\n  \nAbout the Author\nĀryadeva (2nd century CE) is one of the most influential figures in the history of Mahayana Buddhism. Born in Sri Lanka\, he became a principal disciple of Ārya Nagarjuna\, and is revered as one of the founders of the Madhyamaka school. His works are studied extensively across the Indo-Tibetan\, Chinese\, and Zen traditions\, and he is traditionally listed among the seventeen great paṇḍitas of Nalanda. \n\n  \nAbout the Teacher\nGeshe Tenzin Namdak completed his university studies in Hydrology before working as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He later began formal Buddhist studies at Maitreya Institute\, was ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, and went on to complete the rigorous twenty-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey Monastic University in India. He also completed the traditional one-year Vajrayana study programme at Gyumé Tantric College. \nGeshe Namdak is currently the Resident Teacher at Jamyang London Buddhist Centre. \n\n  \nSchedule\n\n\n\nMay – November 2026\nTuesdays | 18:30 – 20:00\nStarting Tuesday 5th May\n\n\n\n\n  \nIs this course for me?\nThis is an intermediate level course\, suitable for students who have a foundational understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and an interest in deepening their study and practice. Familiarity with Lam Rim teachings will be essential. \n\n  \nHow to Join\nEnrolment for this course is now open! Click the link below to view sign-up options \nEnrol Now \n\nDonation\nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. SUMMARY:Calm Abiding and Special Insight
DESCRIPTION:About this course\nIn this course\, we will explore the profound and practical teachings on Calm Abiding (śamatha) and Special Insight (vipaśyanā) as presented in the Lam Rim tradition\, drawing primarily on the instructions of Je Tsongkhapa\, one of Tibet’s greatest scholar-yogis. \nCalm Abiding and Special Insight form the very heart of Buddhist meditation practice. Calm Abiding develops a stable\, clear\, and joyful mind capable of remaining effortlessly on its object\, while Special Insight employs that focused mind to penetrate the nature of reality through wisdom. According to the Mahayana tradition\, liberation and enlightenment can only arise through the union of these two. \nOur principal source text will be Lam Rim Chen Mo (The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment)\, Tsongkhapa’s magnum opus and an indispensable guide for practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism. In this monumental work\, Tsongkhapa brings together the full breadth of the Buddha’s teachings\, sutra and tantra\, method and wisdom\, into a single\, coherent path. \nThe sections on Calm Abiding and Special Insight are especially renowned for their clarity and precision. Tsongkhapa carefully outlines the stages of mental development\, the obstacles that arise in meditation\, and the antidotes needed to overcome them. The text gives essential instruction on how a mind trained in serenity can be harnessed to cultivate insight into emptiness\, in accordance with the Madhyamaka view. \nAs Lama Tsongkhapa himself writes: \n“When looking for the profound meaning\, you will clearly see reality if you have both the wisdom that unerringly discerns the meaning of reality and an unmoving attention that stays as you wish on the object of meditation… This is why you need both serenity and insight.”\n — Lam Rim Chen Mo\, Vol. III \nThroughout the course\, Geshe Namdak will explain how these classical instructions can be applied by contemporary practitioners\, clarifying how meditation on Calm Abiding and Special Insight integrates with ethical discipline\, bodhicitta\, and the broader Lam Rim path. This course\, therefore\, provides both a philosophical foundation and a practical roadmap for deepening one’s meditation practice. \nAbout the Author\nJe Tsongkhapa (1357 – 1419 CE) was one of the greatest figures in the history of Tibetan Buddhism. A peerless scholar\, meditator\, and tantric yogi\, his vast body of work revitalised and systematised the Buddhist teachings in Tibet\, leading to the formation of the Gelug school\, which Jamyang London Buddhist Centre follows today. \nTsongkhapa is especially revered for his emphasis on combining rigorous reasoning with lived meditative experience\, and for presenting the Buddha’s teachings with extraordinary clarity and precision. Because of the depth and transformative power of his contributions\, Tsongkhapa is widely regarded as a “Second Conqueror”\, after Shakyamuni. \nAbout the Teacher\nGeshe Tenzin Namdak completed his university studies in Hydrology before working as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He later began formal Buddhist studies at Maitreya Institute\, was ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, and went on to complete the rigorous twenty-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey Monastic University in India. Familiarity with Lam Rim teachings will be essential. \nHow to Join\nEnrolment for this course is now open!
He also completed the traditional one-year Vajrayana study programme at Gyumé Tantric College. \nGeshe Namdak is currently the Resident Teacher at Jamyang London Buddhist Centre. \nSchedule\n\nMay 2026 – November 2027\nWednesdays | 18:30 – 20:00\nStarting Wednesday 6th May 2026\n\n  \nIs this course for me?\nThis is an intermediate to advanced level course\, suitable for students who have a strong foundational understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and an interest in deepening their study and practice. Familiarity with Lam Rim teachings will be essential. \nHow to Join\nEnrolment for this course is now open! Click the link below to view sign-up options \nEnrol Now \n\nDonation\nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members.
