SUMMARY:Recovery Dharma
DESCRIPTION:About this event \n\nIn-person Only\n\n A weekly meeting of Recovery Dharma\, a peer-led group that uses Buddhist practices and principles to find freedom from the suffering of addiction. Our program uses The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path as a guide for our recovery. Meetings are a chance to come together to support recovery through the practice of mindfulness\, self-inquiry\, meditation\, study of the Dharma\, listening to each other\, and building community. \nWhat can I expect? \nEach meeting offers short readings\, a 15-20 minute meditation\, and group sharing in a compassionate\, non-judgemental space. Our meetings are free\, relying on the generosity of members to support our meeting space where possible. We ask attendees to respect the anonymity and confidentiality of all participants. \nWhat this is for?  \nRecovery Dharma welcomes anyone who is looking to heal from addiction and addictive behavior\, whether it involves substance use or process addictions like gambling\, compulsive use of sex or relationships\, technology\, codependency\, eating disorders\, self-harm\, or any obsessive or habitual pattern that creates suffering. \nYou do not have to identify as a Buddhist nor have any experience of meditation to attend; this is a program of empowerment and doesn’t ask us to believe in anything other than our own potential to change and heal. \nAbout the facilitator \nThis meeting is facilitated by volunteers from the Recovery Dharma London Sangha.  \nRecovery Dharma is a Buddhist-inspired non-profit peer-led movement that is unified by our trust in the potential of each of us to heal from addiction. More information at recoverydharma.org \nHow to join?\nNo need of booking\, people are welcome to just turn up. \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: This event is hosted at Jamyang Buddhist Centre but is independently organised and facilitated by a third party.
Jamyang is not responsible for the content\, facilitation\, or safeguarding arrangements of this event. SUMMARY:Wisdom of Happiness: Film Festival for His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 90th Birthday
DESCRIPTION:Overview \nAs His Holiness the Dalai Lama turns 90 this year\, Jamyang is honouring the occasion by hosting the London Premiere of Wisdom of Happiness. Join us next door at the Cinema Museum where we will gather to watch this intimate biopic for the first time. After the film we will be offering a tour of the Old Courthouse\, now the home of Jamyang London Buddhist Centre\, followed by tea and refreshments. \nSynopsis \nWISDOM OF HAPPINESS is a profound\, new cinematic exploration of the innermost world of the Dalai Lama\, perfectly attuned to our times. In an intimate heart-to-heart\, the world’s greatest ambassador of compassion invites everyone along for a journey to the source of happiness. \n\n\nAt the pinnacle of nine exceptionally challenging decades in the world spotlight that began at the age of four\, the Dalai Lama reflects on balancing millennia-old Tibetan Buddhist traditions with contemporary values of our globalized society that now struggles to overcome violence and war while standing on the brink of environmental collapse. The first Nobel Peace Laureate to be recognized for an early call to preserve our planet shows us that is possible to build a healthier\, happier world for all livings being and that the tools necessary to do so are\, in fact\, already in the palms of our hands. \nThanks to his expansive mind and disarming wit\, the Dalai Lama’s incredibly complex path to a healthy\, happy life is finely distilled and inspires us to see how simple it could be to build to a peaceful\, prosperous society for all to thrive. While happiness is born in each of us\, only the cultivation of unconditional compassion for one another will transform the world. \nIn what is likely to be the Dalai Lama’s last appearance in a film\, the extraordinary collaboration between Barbara Miller\, Philip Delaquis\, Manuel Bauer\, Oren Moverman and Richard Gere creates a remarkable and timely offering to viewers. The filmmakers weave captivating access with contemplative visuals and never-before-seen archival film to take viewers on a generous meditative climb- from the base of suffering to the peak of human intelligence where the view is simply transformational. \nWISDOM OF HAPPINESS is an unforgettable\, meditative experience for the 21st Century that not only unlocks a door to genuine\, lasting happiness but reveals that each and every one of Earth’s 8 billion beings holds their very own key to it in the palm of their hand. \n\nSchedule \n\n14:00-14:30 – Cinema Museum – Arriving and settling in\n14:30-16:05 – Introducing the film and screening of Wisdom of Happiness\n16:05-16:15 – Short break\n16:15-16:30 – Discussion and Q&A\n16:30-18:00 – Tour of the Old Courthouse\, with refreshments in the courtyard\n\n\nTickets \nIn the spirit of kindness that the Dalai Lama embodies\, tickets for this event are offered at a low cost – the ticket price covers the fee charged by the film’s distributor. Tickets are limited\, so we recommend you book now to reserve your place. For any questions\, please contact Freddie by sending an email to gateway@jamyang.co.uk

SUMMARY:Jamyang's Spring Walk
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our first outing of the year to a wonderfully wooded area of East London. \nMeeting Info \nMeet at Waterloo Main Line Station under the large suspended clock near platform eleven at 10:30 am. We’ll be travelling within the zone 6 and may be able to get a group fare. \nAbout the Spring Walk \nThe walk starts from Belvedere where we enter the woods and find an elevated heath that was settled in ancient times\, then drop down through Abbey Woods to the stunning remains of Lesnes Abbey. Here we can have a stop to explore\, have lunch at a cafe or our own lunch packs\, before heading off for the afternoon through interconnecting woodlands with less access for provisions till we meet a friendly pub that knows we’re en route that does teas/coffees etc. \nFrom here there are buses to shorten the walk\, with the remainder continuing through Oxleas Wood with broad avenues and flat walking leading finally to Falcon Wood Rail Station for our return to Waterloo. \nThere are some testing climbs in parts but nothing too challenging\, so please have suitable foot ware and maybe bring some water. Distance 5-6 miles finishing around 4 pm. \nLook forward to meeting you\, and please call Robin on 07442179739 for additional information or if the weather is incompatible and means we need to cancel.
