SUMMARY:Recovery Dharma
DESCRIPTION:About this event \n\nIn-person Only\n\n A weekly meeting of Recovery Dharma\, a peer-led group that uses Buddhist practices and principles to find freedom from the suffering of addiction. Our program uses The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path as a guide for our recovery. Meetings are a chance to come together to support recovery through the practice of mindfulness\, self-inquiry\, meditation\, study of the Dharma\, listening to each other\, and building community. \nWhat can I expect? \nEach meeting offers short readings\, a 15-20 minute meditation\, and group sharing in a compassionate\, non-judgemental space. Our meetings are free\, relying on the generosity of members to support our meeting space where possible. We ask attendees to respect the anonymity and confidentiality of all participants. \nWhat this is for?  \nRecovery Dharma welcomes anyone who is looking to heal from addiction and addictive behavior\, whether it involves substance use or process addictions like gambling\, compulsive use of sex or relationships\, technology\, codependency\, eating disorders\, self-harm\, or any obsessive or habitual pattern that creates suffering. \nYou do not have to identify as a Buddhist nor have any experience of meditation to attend; this is a program of empowerment and doesn’t ask us to believe in anything other than our own potential to change and heal. \nAbout the facilitator \nThis meeting is facilitated by volunteers from the Recovery Dharma London Sangha.  \nRecovery Dharma is a Buddhist-inspired non-profit peer-led movement that is unified by our trust in the potential of each of us to heal from addiction. More information at recoverydharma.org \nHow to join?\nNo need of booking\, people are welcome to just turn up. \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: This event is hosted at Jamyang Buddhist Centre but is independently organised and facilitated by a third party. Jamyang is not responsible for the content\, facilitation\, or safeguarding arrangements of this event. For more information or any concerns\, please contact the organisers directly via recoverydharma.org.

SUMMARY:Sunday Dharma Talks
DESCRIPTION:Curious about Buddhism\, or looking to reconnect with its timeless wisdom in everyday life? Our Sunday Dharma Talks offer a welcoming and relaxed space to explore Buddhist teachings in a way that is both practical and relatable. \nThese informal talks are led by a rotating group of experienced Buddhist teachers and meditation instructors\, each bringing many years of lived practice to their teaching. On the third Sunday of each month\, they share insights drawn from the Buddhist tradition and from real life – speaking in a down-to-earth way that meets us exactly where we are. \nEach session includes time for reflection\, open discussion\, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions\, whether you’re completely new to Buddhism or have been practising for years. And of course\, there’s space to relax\, connect with others\, and enjoy a cuppa together after the talk. \nEveryone is welcome – no prior experience is needed. \n  \nThis month we’re honoured to be hosting Lama Zangmo who has kindly offered to speak about how to measure progress in meditation. \nHow do we know the practice is ‘working’? How do we know we are doing it correctly and we are not fooling ourselves? Lama Zangmo will look at some of the slogans from the Mind Training teachings which help us to evaluate our meditation practice. The slogans help us to look at our mind more clearly and use whatever arises\, whether pleasant or painful\, as part of the path. \nLama Gelongma Zangmo became a practising Buddhist when she arrived at Kagyu Samye Ling in 1977 and took refuge with His Holiness the 16th Karmapa\, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje. After spending some years in retreat\, in 1998 she was asked by Akong Tulku Rinpoche to set up and run the Kagyu Samye Dzong London Centre.\n\n\nFormat: Hybrid\nSuggested donation: £15\n\n\nHow to Join? \nSign up below or just show up on the day! \nDonation \nJamyang operates on a generosity model. Please select the donation option that is most suitable for your situation. \nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. The donations\, or Dana\, given when registering for events and teachings support the Centre’s operations\, allowing us to deliver our activities. If you’re able to give a little more\, that’s wonderful; if a little less\, that’s fine too. These donations help with essentials like feeding residential volunteers\, housing our monastics\, and keeping our doors open. You can also request a reduced rate. \n\nFor Monastics \nWe would like to offer this talk to ordained sangha members for free. If you are ordained sangha please register here.
