SUMMARY:How to Do Analytical Meditation: Practical Advice
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day of practical guidance on analytical meditation – an essential method in the Buddhist tradition for developing insight and clarity. In these three sessions\, Geshe-la will offer step-by-step instruction on how to work with the mind through inquiry\, reflection\, and reasoning\, helping transform intellectual understanding into direct experience. \nWhether you are new to meditation or looking to deepen your existing practice\, this day will provide accessible tools to help you engage more meaningfully with your inner life. \nSchedule:These teachings form day 1 of 2; a full weekend of teachings offered by Geshe Sherab. Day 1 schedule: \nSession 1: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AMSession 2: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PMSession 3: 14:00 PM – 15:00 PM \nYou will learn how to structure and sustain an analytical meditation practice with clarity and purpose. You will leave with practical tools to work with your thoughts and deepen insight in daily life. \nIf you’re interested in exploring the philosophical foundations behind these practices\, look out for our Day 2 event on teachings from the Diamond Cutter Sutra. \n \nAbout the Teacher \nGeshe Thubten Sherab was born in 1967 in a very small village in the province of Manang\, located in the western part of Nepal. His parents\, wishing to accumulate merit\, sought to have him join the monastery\, and he was accepted at Kopan Monastery by Lama Yeshe. He studied for his Geshe degree at Sera Je Monastery from 1987 to 2000\, drawing great inspiration from revered teachers\, including Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche\, by observing their practice and daily lives. \nAfter completing his studies and a year at Gyume Tantric College\, he spent two and a half years in the United States\, assisting FPMT’s International Office and teaching in places like Taos and Santa Fe\, before deciding to return to Nepal. This is how Geshe la’s adventure with New Mexico and The Buddhist Center Thubten Norbu Ling started. After serving as the headmaster of the Mount Everest School at Kopan Monastery in Nepal\,  and acting abbot of Kopan Monastery\, Geshe la returned to Santa Fe in 2014 to become our resident teacher. Geshe la plans to enter a long retreat in 2027. \nGeshe Thubten Sherab consistently emphasizes the importance of integrating one’s study and practice and encourages students to follow the constant advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche by integrating both elements for balanced spiritual growth for the benefit of all. \nAfter this 2026 teaching tour\, Geshe-la will be entering long term retreat\, so the teachings offered at Jamyang are a precious opportunity to make and deepen one’s connection with Geshe Sherab. \n  \nDonation\nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. The donations\, or Dana\, given when registering for events and teachings support the Centre’s operations\, allowing us to deliver our activities. If you’re able to give a little more\, that’s wonderful; if a little less\, that’s fine too. These donations help with essentials like feeding residential volunteers\, housing our monastics\, and keeping our doors open. However\, we wish to emphasise that the Dharma is always offered freely and no-one is ever excluded because of their financial status\, please do not hesitate to request a reduced rate. \nMonastic practitioner? SUMMARY:Teachings on the Diamond Cutter Sutra
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day of teachings on the Diamond Cutter Sutra\, one of the most profound texts in Mahayana Buddhism. Through three sessions\, Geshe-la will guide participants through key ideas such as emptiness\, perception\, and non-attachment\, offering insight into how these teachings can be understood and applied in everyday life. \nGeshe-la has also kindly offered to give the transmission (lung) of the text. In the Buddhist tradition\, receiving a transmission establishes a teacher–disciple connection when one listens with the clear intention of receiving it. Please take the time to ensure you understand this connection and are ready to make this step. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about what a teacher-disciple connection entails. \nSchedule:These teachings form day 2 of 2; a full weekend of teachings offered by Geshe Sherab. Day 2 schedule: \nSession 1: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AMSession 2: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PMSession 3: 14:00 PM – 15:00 PM \nYou will gain an introduction to key insights from the Diamond Cutter Sutra\, including emptiness and non-attachment. You will leave with a deeper understanding of how these teachings can shift perception and inform your practice. \nIf you would like a more hands-on introduction to meditation techniques\, look out for our Day 1 event on analytical meditation. \nAbout the Teacher \n \nGeshe Thubten Sherab was born in 1967 in a very small village in the province of Manang\, located in the western part of Nepal.
