SUMMARY:Chittamani Tara Puja
DESCRIPTION:Chittamani (Mind Jewel) Tara\, is the Highest Yoga Tantra form of Tara\, the female Buddha. \nThe benefits of Tara practice according to Lama Zopa Rinpoche: \nTara is quick to grant success in obtaining the ultimate happiness of enlightenment. SUMMARY:Āryadeva’s Four Hundred Verses
DESCRIPTION:About this course \nOver the course of seven months\, we will undertake a close and contemplative study of one of the most profound yet practically oriented texts of the Madhyamaka tradition: Four Hundred Verses on the Middle Way (Catuḥśataka) by the great master Āryadeva. \nComposed as a complete path of training\, the Four Hundred Verses occupies a unique place within Mahayana Buddhism. While deeply rooted in Nāgārjuna’s vision of emptiness\, it is especially valued for its step-by-step guidance on how to transform the mind in preparation for realizing the ultimate truth. For this reason\, the text has long been cherished as both a philosophical treatise and a manual for yogic training. \nThe text is structured into sixteen chapters of twenty-five verses each. The first eight chapters focus on the collection of merit\, systematically dismantling unwholesome patterns of thought and behaviour that obstruct the path. Without this ethical and psychological groundwork\, Āryadeva makes clear\, realization of emptiness is impossible. The second eight chapters then turn to the collection of wisdom\, offering incisive reasoning that leads the practitioner toward a correct understanding of reality according to the Madhyamaka view. \nĀryadeva famously summarises this progression as follows: \nAt first\, turn away from non-virtue;\nIn the middle\, dispel misconceptions of self;\nFinally\, go beyond all philosophical views –\n One who understands this is wise indeed.\n (Four Hundred Verses\, VIII.15) \nThroughout the course\, Geshe Namdak will illuminate how the Four Hundred Verses functions as a bridge between ethical self-transformation and profound philosophical insight\, and how it complements and prepares the ground for later Madhyamaka classics such as Entering the Middle Way and Commentary on Bodhicitta. \nThis course offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with a text that trains the mind not only to understand emptiness\, but to become fit to realize it. \n\n  \nAbout the Author\nĀryadeva (2nd century CE) is one of the most influential figures in the history of Mahayana Buddhism. Born in Sri Lanka\, he became a principal disciple of Ārya Nagarjuna\, and is revered as one of the founders of the Madhyamaka school. His works are studied extensively across the Indo-Tibetan\, Chinese\, and Zen traditions\, and he is traditionally listed among the seventeen great paṇḍitas of Nalanda. \n\n  \nAbout the Teacher\nGeshe Tenzin Namdak completed his university studies in Hydrology before working as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. He later began formal Buddhist studies at Maitreya Institute\, was ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, and went on to complete the rigorous twenty-year Geshe degree at Sera Jey Monastic University in India. He also completed the traditional one-year Vajrayana study programme at Gyumé Tantric College. \nGeshe Namdak is currently the Resident Teacher at Jamyang London Buddhist Centre. \n\n  \nSchedule\n\n\n\nMay – November 2026\nTuesdays | 18:30 – 20:00\nStarting Tuesday 5th May\n\n\n\n\n  \nIs this course for me?\nThis is an intermediate level course\, suitable for students who have a foundational understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and an interest in deepening their study and practice. Familiarity with Lam Rim teachings will be essential. \n\n  \nHow to Join\nEnrolment for this course is now open! Click the link below to view sign-up options \nEnrol Now \n\nDonation\nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. SUMMARY:Medicine Buddha Puja
DESCRIPTION:About Medicine Buddha Puja \n\nIn Person Only\n\nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting. \nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs  “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. It is written in the scriptures that you should not have a two-pointed mind (doubt) with regard to these benefits”. \nHow can I join?\nJust turn up!

SUMMARY:Climate Café
DESCRIPTION:What is a Climate Café?\nA Climate Café is a group-directed discussion of climate change with no agenda; an informal and confidential conversation\, supported by facilitators. \nAt a Climate Café everyone is welcome to join the conversation whether you are involved in climate action or not.  \nClimate cafés are open to anyone aged 18 or over who is worried about the climate and ecological crisis. A safe space to share\, learn\, talk and listen. \nFor more information about climate cafés\, you can read more at Climate Psychology Alliance. \nWhat attendees are saying about the Climate Café\n“I was fortunate to attend the Climate Café at Jamyang and was really glad I did. Quite different from what I expected (thought we would be sharing ideas on how to make a difference etc)\, rather we focused on deep connection and listening to our own and everyone’s feelings. I left the event at peace and inspired to continue on the journey. Grateful to Liz and Cynthia for beautifully holding the space and to everyone who attended – thank you and look forward to the next one” – Barbara \n“This was my first time at a climate cafe and at first I questioned the value of just talking about my feelings around the climate crisis\, I wanted to talk about what we were going to do about it! But I soon realised that deep self-enquiry into how the crisis affects me on an emotional level was absolutely what I needed\, and precisely what’s missing from so much of the public conversation around climate change. Liz and Cynthia were so skilful in holding the space and guiding the conversation. I would fully recommend”. – Freddie \n“Thank you for offering this space to connect with others around the climate emergency. I found the Climate Cafés a powerful reminder that we are not alone\, that others share similar concerns and deep care for our environment and its beings. Connecting with others in this intimate and safe way created a great sense of belonging and\, well\, joy”. –  Drolma \nAbout the Facilitators\nAnissa is a Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a deep passion for supporting individuals affected by adoption and trauma\, including trauma resulting from natural disasters. She is also interested in the psychological impact of climate change\, recognizing its profound effects on our well-being and mental health. \nMaeva is a student and volunteer at Jamyang and works as a midwife for the NHS. She has experience facilitating groups and workshops\, and is inspired to hold spaces where members of the community can come together to explore and discuss the emotional impact of the climate and ecological crisis. \nHow to Join?\nBook on Eventbrite \nWe suggest saving your spot ahead of time to help the facilitator to organise the event. \nDonations are welcome: Jamyang relies on the kind donations of those who attend activities in the centre.

SUMMARY:Lama Chopa and Tsog Offering (Guru Puja)
DESCRIPTION:Lama Chopa (also known as Guru Puja) is a practice of guru devotion special to the Gelugpa tradition. During this practice\, the lamas of the graduated path lineage beginning with Shakyamuni Buddha himself\, are invoked\, extending to present direct teachers who have shown the path. Practitioners pay homage\, make offerings\, and request each of them to please bless their minds with the same realizations that they themselves have generated. By offering sincere\, heartfelt requests\, students make their minds ripe to receive the full blessings of this precious lineage and quickly actualize the realizations they need to attain enlightenment. If you wish to experience realizations quickly\, the practice of Lama Chopa is indispensable. \nThe benefits of the practice according to Lama Zopa Rinpoche: \nPracticing this Guru Puja\, which is an integration of the three deities\, makes it much easier to achieve enlightenment in a brief life of this degenerated time. Doing this practice every day\, with purification and many infinite skies of merit\, brings the mind closer to the path to enlightenment and closer to enlightenment itself\, and so much closer to freeing all sentient beings from obscurations and suffering and leading them to enlightenment. Putting the meaning of this into practice in one’s life makes each day extremely rich and worthwhile. \nThis practice is restricted to practitioners who hold a Highest Yoga Tantra empowerment \nPlease register using the link below before attending this event. \nAs part of our commitment to care for your spiritual wellbeing\, and that of our teachers and the center as a whole\, we kindly ask everyone who wishes to engage in this practice answer a few short questions about their practice background.

SUMMARY:Inner Wellbeing in Buddhist Mind Science
DESCRIPTION:About the event \nJoin us for a day of exploration and practice dedicated to understanding the mind and cultivating genuine inner wellbeing. \nThis 1 day retreat experience balances theory with practice — drawing on the rich philosophical and contemplative traditions found in Buddhism and synthesizing this with the latest scientific evidence — offering practical tools for working with the mind that are both accessible and relevant for the busyness of modern life. \nThroughout the day\, we will explore the Buddhist understanding of the mind\, emotions\, as well as the roots of happiness and suffering. Through teachings\, guided meditation\, and reflective inquiry\, participants will be introduced to key concepts such as the role of attention\, the nature of disturbing emotions\, and the cultivation of wholesome mental states. These insights are grounded in centuries of careful contemplative investigation and offer a remarkably detailed map of inner experience that speaks to the universal human aspiration to live with greater ease\, clarity\, and warmth. \nWhether you are new to meditation\, a seasoned practitioner\, or simply curious about what Buddhist mind science has to offer the modern world\, this 1 day retreat experience provides a welcoming and intellectually engaging space to deepen your understanding of the mind and take home practical methods for your everyday life. \n \n  \nAbout the Teacher \nAfter completing his university studies in Hydrology\, Geshe Tenzin Namdak worked as an environmental researcher in the Netherlands. Whether you’re completely new to Buddhism\, already familiar with mindfulness or meditation\, or looking to deepen your understanding\, this course meets you where you are. \n\n\nWhat is Dhana and the Generosity model?\nDhana is a Sanskrit word meaning generosity or giving. In Buddhism\, it’s a foundational practice that cultivates an open heart and a sense of interconnectedness. This means we rely on your contributions to sustain the center and make these teachings accessible to everyone. \n\n\nHow long is the course?\nThe Discovering Buddhism course runs from May 5th 2025 to July 27th 2026. While the Discovering Buddhism course is designed as a complete program\, with each module building on the last\, you’re welcome to join for the topics that interest you most. \n\nThat said\, committing to the full course provides a comprehensive understanding of the Buddhist path\, and you’ll benefit from the continuity of learning with the same group of students. If you’re unsure\, feel free to start with a single module and see how it resonates—there’s no obligation to continue beyond that. \n\n\nWhat type of Buddhism do you teach at Jamyang?\n\nAt Jamyang\, we teach Buddhism in the tradition of Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism\, which emphasizes compassion\, wisdom\, and the path to enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. This approach is rooted in the teachings of the great Indian masters like Nagarjuna and Atisha\, passed down through Tibetan lineage masters such as Lama Tsongkhapa. \n\nWhile grounded in these ancient traditions\, our teachings are presented in a way that’s accessible and relevant to modern life. Whether you’re exploring meditation\, Buddhist philosophy\, or practical tools for living with more peace and purpose\, our programs are designed to meet you wherever you are on your spiritual journey. \nOur centre is affiliated with the global organisation ‘The Foundation for the preservation of the Mahayana Tradition’ (FPMT) founded by Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Our Spiritual Director is His Holiness the Dalai Lama. \n\n\nAre there learning resources and support available?\n\n\nWe provide a range of resources to help you get the most out of the Discovering Buddhism course: \n\n\nWeekly Recordings: All classes are recorded\, so you can revisit teachings at your own pace or catch up if you miss a session.\nCourse Materials: You’ll receive comprehensive handouts\, readings\, and worksheets for each module to deepen your understanding.\nFacilitator and Teaching Assistant Support: Regular review sessions and assessments are led by experienced facilitators to help clarify and reinforce key concepts.\nDiscovering Buddhism WhatsApp Group: A dedicated space to connect with fellow students\, share resources\, and ask questions.\nRecommended Readings: Curated book and article lists to expand your study of each topic.\nOnline Resources: Access to additional materials and suggested meditations to support independent practice.\n\nThese resources are designed to ensure you feel supported throughout the course\, whether you’re joining in person or online. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe’re here to help\nContact\nIf you need any further information or assistance\, simply reach out to Freddie\, our Assistant Spiritual Program Coordinator\, and he’ll be happy to help. \ngateway@jamyang.co.uk \n\n\n\nThank you for your interest in Discovering Buddhism.
You receive much good merit\, or cause of happiness; it prevents a suffering rebirth in your next life; you receive initiation from millions of buddhas; and you achieve enlightenment. Besides these\, however\, Tara practice has many other benefits.
