At the age of three he was recognised and enthroned as the sixth incarnation of the abbot of Jhado Monastery. From 1992 to 1996 Rinpoche taught at Namgyal Monastery in Dharamsala\, the personal monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 1997 he was appointed its Abbot\, serving in that role until 2004. \n\n\n\nHe is held to be one of the most highly esteemed Lamas in the Geluk lineage today\, having received many oral transmissions and empowerments from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his two main tutors\, and from great teachers of other traditions – among them the Nyingma masters Trulshik Rinpoche and Chogye Trichen Rinpoche. \n  \n\n\n\nTeaching Schedule\n\n\n\nKalachakra Initiation\n\n\n\nWith Teachings on the Three Principal Aspects of the Path and Lojong. Register here. \n  \n\n\n\nPrerequisites for Attendance\n\n\n\nAttending the initiations and jenangs is best suited for those who have a good understanding of the Lam Rim and the Three Principal Aspects of the Path. Attendees of the Cittamani Tara initiation and the Lama Chopa commentary must have already received a Highest Yoga Tantra initiation (such as the Kalachakra initiation that will take place prior). \n\n\n\nAttending the initiations and jenangs means receiving the corresponding commitments – it is not possible to attend them as a blessing. \n  \n\n\n\nCommitments\n\n\n\nThe Kalachakra initiation and the Cittamani Tara initiation come with the normal commitments of refuge\, bodhisattva vows and tantric vows\, as well as the twice-daily Six Session Guru Yoga sadhana commitment. In addition to those\, the Cittamani Tara initiation comes with a daily commitment to recite the Cittamani Tara Guru Yoga sadhana. \n\n\n\nThe Lama Chopa commentary does not have a daily recitation commitment\, as Rinpoche will not be giving an experiential commentary. The Lama Tsongkhapa jenang and the Medicine Buddha jenang are given with the Bodhisattva vows. \n\n\n\nPlease note: these commitments may change\, and Rinpoche may choose to give additional commitments when giving the initiations. \n  \n\n\n\nTranslation\n\n\n\nSpanish translation will be available. \n  \n\n\n\nOnline Attendance\n\n\n\nOnline attendance is only available for the Sutrayana teachings on the Three Principal Aspects of the Path and Lojong during the first half of the first day\, beginning at 13:00 on 9 September. \n  \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nTickets are available for: \n\n\n\n\nKalachakra Initiation and accompanying teachings – In-person\, Days 1 & 2 (combined)\nCittamani Tara Initiation and accompanying teachings – In-person\, Day 3\nLama Chopa Commentary and accompanying Jenangs – In-person\, Days 4 & 5 (combined)\nEntire Event\, In-person\nDay 1 Teachings – Online only\n\n\n\n\nIf you would like to attend the sutra teachings on a day when there is also an initiation\, it is your responsibility to leave before the initiation is given. \n\n\n\n\nBook Your Place\n\n \n \n\n\n\nScholarships\n\n\n\nA limited number of scholarships of various sizes are available for those who require financial assistance to attend the teachings. SUMMARY:Special Medicine Buddha Puja for Nepal & Tibet
DESCRIPTION:This Medicine Buddha Puja will be dedicated to all those who have lost their lives\, are missing\, now homeless or otherwise affected by the flash floods in Nepal and Tibet. Join in-person or online via livestream! \n  \nPlease note the change of time. This week’s puja will take place at 5:30-6:30pm \n  \nAbout Medicine Buddha Puja \nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles. These offerings are made alongside prayer and chanting. \nThe seven Medicine Buddhas\, attainers of bliss\, strongly prayed for the temporal and ultimate happiness of yourself and all sentient beings. They vowed that their prayers would be actualized during these degenerate times when the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha are in decline. As the buddhas’ holy speech is irrevocable\, you can wholly trust in their power to quickly grant blessings to help all sentient beings in these degenerate times\,” Lama Zopa Rinpoche instructs  “If you pray to Guru Medicine Buddha\, you will quickly accomplish all that you wish. Just hearing the holy name of Guru Medicine Buddha and the sound of his mantra closes the door to rebirth in the suffering lower realms. It is written in the scriptures that you should not have a two-pointed mind (doubt) with regard to these benefits”. \nHow can I join?\nJust turn up! Or join us via livestream on the Jamyang Buddhist Centre – YouTube

SUMMARY:Recovery Dharma
DESCRIPTION:About this event \n\nIn-person Only\n\n A weekly meeting of Recovery Dharma\, a peer-led group that uses Buddhist practices and principles to find freedom from the suffering of addiction. Our program uses The Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path as a guide for our recovery. Meetings are a chance to come together to support recovery through the practice of mindfulness\, self-inquiry\, meditation\, study of the Dharma\, listening to each other\, and building community. \nWhat can I expect? \nEach meeting offers short readings\, a 15-20 minute meditation\, and group sharing in a compassionate\, non-judgemental space. Our meetings are free\, relying on the generosity of members to support our meeting space where possible. We ask attendees to respect the anonymity and confidentiality of all participants. \nWhat this is for?  \nRecovery Dharma welcomes anyone who is looking to heal from addiction and addictive behavior\, whether it involves substance use or process addictions like gambling\, compulsive use of sex or relationships\, technology\, codependency\, eating disorders\, self-harm\, or any obsessive or habitual pattern that creates suffering. \nYou do not have to identify as a Buddhist nor have any experience of meditation to attend; this is a program of empowerment and doesn’t ask us to believe in anything other than our own potential to change and heal. \nAbout the facilitator \nThis meeting is facilitated by volunteers from the Recovery Dharma London Sangha.  \nRecovery Dharma is a Buddhist-inspired non-profit peer-led movement that is unified by our trust in the potential of each of us to heal from addiction. More information at recoverydharma.org \nHow to join?\nNo need of booking\, people are welcome to just turn up. \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: This event is hosted at Jamyang Buddhist Centre but is independently organised and facilitated by a third party. Jamyang is not responsible for the content\, facilitation\, or safeguarding arrangements of this event. For more information or any concerns\, please contact the organisers directly via recoverydharma.org.

SUMMARY:Medicine Buddha Puja
DESCRIPTION:About Medicine Buddha Puja \n\nIn Person Only\n\nPujas are rituals in which consecrated offerings – such as food\, water\, light and incense – are made to an enlightened being for the sake of creating conditions for progress on the spiritual path\, as well as removing obstacles.

SUMMARY:Teachings on the Diamond Cutter Sutra
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day of teachings on the Diamond Cutter Sutra\, one of the most profound texts in Mahayana Buddhism. Through three sessions\, Geshe-la will guide participants through key ideas such as emptiness\, perception\, and non-attachment\, offering insight into how these teachings can be understood and applied in everyday life. \nGeshe-la has also kindly offered to give the transmission (lung) of the text. In the Buddhist tradition\, receiving a transmission establishes a teacher–disciple connection when one listens with the clear intention of receiving it. Please take the time to ensure you understand this connection and are ready to make this step. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about what a teacher-disciple connection entails. \nSchedule:These teachings form day 2 of 2; a full weekend of teachings offered by Geshe Sherab. Day 2 schedule: \nSession 1: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AMSession 2: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PMSession 3: 14:00 PM – 15:00 PM \nYou will gain an introduction to key insights from the Diamond Cutter Sutra\, including emptiness and non-attachment. You will leave with a deeper understanding of how these teachings can shift perception and inform your practice. \nIf you would like a more hands-on introduction to meditation techniques\, look out for our Day 1 event on analytical meditation. \nAbout the Teacher \n \nGeshe Thubten Sherab was born in 1967 in a very small village in the province of Manang\, located in the western part of Nepal. His parents\, wishing to accumulate merit\, sought to have him join the monastery\, and he was accepted at Kopan Monastery by Lama Yeshe. He studied for his Geshe degree at Sera Je Monastery from 1987 to 2000\, drawing great inspiration from revered teachers\, including Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche\, by observing their practice and daily lives. \nAfter completing his studies and a year at Gyume Tantric College\, he spent two and a half years in the United States\, assisting FPMT’s International Office and teaching in places like Taos and Santa Fe\, before deciding to return to Nepal. This is how Geshe la’s adventure with New Mexico and The Buddhist Center Thubten Norbu Ling started. After serving as the headmaster of the Mount Everest School at Kopan Monastery in Nepal\,  and acting abbot of Kopan Monastery\, Geshe la returned to Santa Fe in 2014 to become our resident teacher. Geshe la plans to enter a long retreat in 2027. \nGeshe Thubten Sherab consistently emphasizes the importance of integrating one’s study and practice and encourages students to follow the constant advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche by integrating both elements for balanced spiritual growth for the benefit of all. \nAfter this 2026 teaching tour\, Geshe-la will be entering long term retreat\, so the teachings offered at Jamyang are a precious opportunity to make and deepen one’s connection with Geshe Sherab. \n  \nDonation\nJamyang is a non-profit charitable organisation that relies on the kindness of our donors\, including students and community members. The donations\, or Dana\, given when registering for events and teachings support the Centre’s operations\, allowing us to deliver our activities. If you’re able to give a little more\, that’s wonderful; if a little less\, that’s fine too. These donations help with essentials like feeding residential volunteers\, housing our monastics\, and keeping our doors open. However\, we wish to emphasise that the Dharma is always offered freely and no-one is ever excluded because of their financial status\, please do not hesitate to request a reduced rate. \nMonastic practitioner? You can enrol for free — register here.

Day 1 schedule: \nSession 1: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AMSession 2: 11:30 AM – 12:30 PMSession 3: 14:00 PM – 15:00 PM \nYou will learn how to structure and sustain an analytical meditation practice with clarity and purpose. You will leave with practical tools to work with your thoughts and deepen insight in daily life. \nIf you’re interested in exploring the philosophical foundations behind these practices\, look out for our Day 2 event on teachings from the Diamond Cutter Sutra. \n \nAbout the Teacher \nGeshe Thubten Sherab was born in 1967 in a very small village in the province of Manang\, located in the western part of Nepal.
