About the Teacher

Geshe Tenzin Namdak, resident teacher at Jamyang

Geshe Namdak’s teaching brings together clarity, warmth and precision. Jamyang Buddhist Centre London is now making it possible for FPMT centres and study groups to access his teachings of the FPMT Discovering Buddhism programme, through a dedicated group access tier.

Geshe Tenzin Namdak

Geshe Tenzin Namdak

Resident teacher at Jamyang Buddhist Centre London since 2020. He holds a Geshe degree, the highest scholarly qualification in the Gelug tradition, earned after more than 20 years of intensive study at Sera Je Monastic University in South India.

His teaching makes complex philosophical ideas accessible and personally relevant, drawing on his scholarship while always connecting the teachings to everyday life and practice.

This new group tier enables centres and study groups to benefit from direct access to his approach to presenting the FPMT Discovering Buddhism programme.

The Programme

A structured 14 module journey through the core teachings of the path

Taught by Geshe Tenzin Namdak and Venerable Tenzin Gendun, the FPMT Discovering Buddhism programme is a structured 14 module journey through the core teachings of the Buddhist path, guiding students from foundational topics such as the nature of mind and meditation, through to the generation of bodhichitta, the wisdom of emptiness and an introduction to tantra.

Comprising recordings of live teachings in the Jamyang gompa, Jamyang is offering Geshe Namdak’s teachings in the form of a fully self-paced online programme, suitable for centres and study groups including those without access to a resident teacher.

Introducing our community to the teachings of the Gelugpa tradition through Jamyang London’s DB Self-study has been transformative. Lama Tsongkhapa emphasised clarity, reasoning, and structured practice, and Geshe Namdak’s presentations embody these qualities beautifully. For many of our members, this is their first real encounter with a qualified teacher in this lineage. Being able to gather in person, watch the teachings together, and discuss them as a group has brought a new level of inspiration and cohesion to our center. It has truly expanded what a small center like ours can offer.

How It Works in Practice

Flexible by design

Your centre or study group receives full access to all of Geshe Namdak’s course content and can structure the learning experience in accordance with the DB programme guidelines for your community.

A study group in action

How one community is using the programme

One community currently using Discovering Buddhism gathers together in person to watch Geshe Namdak’s video teachings as a group. They have appointed a community coordinator who organises sessions and keeps the group on track.

Between meetings, members study independently and stay connected via a dedicated WhatsApp group. They hold regular Q&A sessions where the group explores the material together.

This version of the DB programme can be facilitated by the centre or study group where a resident teacher is not available.

Other approaches you might consider

  • 01Screening one module per week or fortnight as a group, followed by discussion
  • 02Running it as a structured term based study programme alongside your centre’s existing offerings
  • 03Making it available as a self-paced resource for individual members, with periodic group check-ins
  • 04Study groups with no access to a resident teacher can rely on Geshe Namdak’s teachings as a valuable support
