Establish Hayagriva
at Jamyang
A New Shrine Unfolds
Losar marks the beginning of something very meaningful for our small gompa. Geshe Namdak is carefully conceptualising a new altar shrine above the mantelpiece, which will unfold in stages over the coming year.
The first phase focuses on protector deities, with Yamantaka and Hayagriva seated either side of Shakyamuni Buddha. Yamantaka has already been generously gifted to the Jamyang community by Yangten Rinpoche. Now we’re hoping to establish Hayagriva.
Why Hayagriva?
Hayagriva is a wrathful manifestation of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion appearing in powerful form to cut through obstacles and protect the Dharma.
Within FPMT, this practice holds a particularly deep connection. Lama Zopa Rinpoche strongly encouraged reliance on Most Secret Hayagriva during times of difficulty, and the practice is closely linked with Sera Jey Monastery, where many of our teachers have trained. For our lineage, this practice is living, relied upon, and trusted.
Why Holy Objects Matter
To establish a holy object is to create causes that continue long after we’re gone. Lama Zopa Rinpoche often reminded us that holy objects benefit beings simply by existing. They radiate blessing, accumulate merit for those who make offerings, and strengthen the conditions for the Dharma to flourish.
To bring a Hayagriva statue to Jamyang — part one of a larger vision. Later in the year we’ll fundraise for the central Shakyamuni Buddha statue and the cabinetry to house the full display.
Make an OfferingHere is a small offering for Losar. I walked into Jamyang over 30 years ago…met incredible teachers and my root guru. My life changed forever, so I’m always grateful.
