    Hi Jared,

We’re meeting up again at 9am tomorrow (Thursday 13 May) and next Monday (17 May). It’s very early days, so we haven’t settled on particular days.
9am was chosen to be straight after morning prayers, but again this isn’t set in stone either.

The link is on the last post on page 1 of this thread – would be delighted if you joined in.

Also, there are a couple of people who are interested in coming along but can’t make 9am (there is a post in the Jamyang Facebook group), so if the times for this group don’t work for you, there may well be enough people interested in another session at an earlier time.

    It’s all work in progress!

    Cheers,

    Diana

Thanks to everyone who came along this morning, and to Laura for leading the meditation.

The next sessions are on Thursday and Monday at 9am UK time, same Zoom details. Everyone is welcome!

I was chatting to Steff before yesterday’s session about interaction between sessions. If the forum thread isn’t useful, then we should reconsider using WhatsApp, Facebook or another way of communicating within the group.

Is everyone who would want to join a group be happy using WhatsApp? (I remember there being privacy concerns around Facebook).

Thanks Lars. If we have a few people in the session, then that would be great!

I’ll open a half-hour Zoom session after morning prayers on Monday (approx 9am UK time) for the next 2 weeks (10 & 17 May).
Laura, Katrin and anyone else, feel free to join me – no worries if you don’t/can’t.

I’m not capable of leading a mediation beyond putting up a slide with the topic on it and ringing a bell at the end, but if anyone would like to lead a meditation, that would be great. And if I’m on my own… that’s okay too. No pressure.

How does that sound, Laura? Do you have a preference for earlier or later?

I’m happy to open up a Zoom session before or after Morning Prayers on Monday and post the link here.

Any of those times would work for me.

Would Monday AM, before or after the Morning prayers, work for everyone? (7:55am- 8:25am or 9am-9:30am?) I’ve been very lax about attending those lately, so it would help me get to those too.

    Hi Laura,

I’d be up for that. Been struggling keeping up with the meditations from the start of the module!

Thanks again to everyone who is contributing.

Lars, I will look into the book you have recommended. Jared, thank you for the link to the document – I will check that out.
Ian, thank you for your thoughts, they are very helpful.

Kamlo, I’m comfortable with the idea of transformation and the atoms that are in one object eventually becoming part of new molecules and new objects. I think your post has given me a better starting point for thinking about how something like the mind could continue over multiple lives. For example, a cloud disappears when it turns into rain. That rain will fall and become part of an ocean and, at some point, those atoms will form a new cloud, and I can see that all of these forms share characteristics (specifically H2O). I will get contemplating!

Sarah, this might be tangential to your question, but your post reminded me that there was a recent Guardian article) about patients with dementia having periods of terminal lucidity shortly before death. Somewhere near the end of the article:

It opened me up to possibilities,” says Kay Porterfield of her father’s Christmas resurgence. “That I don’t know this is this way and that is that way. And it has made me feel more open to the possibility that our mind is not a physical thing and it is not located in our body. Maybe it’s just a tenant. Our mind is a tenant in our bodies.”

I have lots to think about. Thanks everyone.

Thank you Jackie, Sarah and Hilary.

Actually, I was brought up with Buddhism and I studied science at university. This is a long-running issue for me.

After Geshe-la’s classes, I read “Old Souls”, but it wasn’t particularly helpful for me – it just seems so difficult to conduct research into this area without compromises. On the other hand, I was very struck by the “Unmistaken Child” documentary (and when the monk featured in the documentary gave a teaching at Jamyang London years later, I came along to hear him talk about it).

I’ll seek out the Netflix documentary that has been mentioned – thank you for pointing me to it.

    Hello. I’m Diana.

I’m currently living in London and look forward to being able to visit the centre in person again.

In the meantime, I’m pleased we have online teachings and it’s great being able to meet others from all over the world.

    Diana
