EDI Training

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) trainings are designed to help our staff, volunteers, and facilitators understand and appreciate the importance of diversity and inclusion in our community. Our EDI trainings are as a series of workshops that take place three times a year, in addition to Safeguarding training and practice sessions which also take place throughout the year.

These trainings are facilitated by the EDI Co-Ordinator and are intended to help Jamyang London’s team learn how to identify and understand key concepts related to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. This year the first workshop included topics such as: Understanding the Difference Between Diversity and Inclusion, Understanding Microaggressions, Understanding Our Own Bias, and Creating Inclusive Spaces. The second workshop was dedicated to Understanding Privilege and Systems of Power, Understanding Gender and Sexuality, as well as LGBTQIA History and Culture. The third and final workshop of the year will be dedicated to Understanding Disability Inclusion and Equity.

Our aim is that with this series of trainings, Jamyang London’s team will be able to develop the knowledge and skills they need to create a more inclusive and equitable community. It helps us learn how to communicate more effectively with people from different backgrounds other than ourselves, while developing strategies and best practices for inclusive approaches to our individual areas of work. These trainings can take many different forms, but it typically includes a combination of presentations, discussion, and exercises.
