Four Deities of the Kadam Empowerment | Yangten Rinpoche
January 14 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm
About this teaching
Yangten Rinpoche has been teaching Jamyang students online for several years. In particular, he offered the community a series of teachings on Lama Tsongkhapa’s Song of Experience. We now have the immeasurable good fortune to welcome Rinpoche to Jamyang in-person. As part of his teaching schedule, Rinpoche will give an empowerment of the Four Deities of the Kadam. The Four Deities include Shakyamuni, Avalokiteshvara, Acala and Tara. They were practiced by Atisha, the great Indian master who is known as the trailblazer of the Lam Rim, and who caused a renaissance for the Buddhist doctrine in Tibet. This practice belongs to the Kriya class of tantra, and so the empowerment does not constitute a permission to engage with Highest Yoga Tantra practices.
An empowerment is a ritual that is an essential element of the Vajrayana tradition of Buddhism. The Vajrayana is considered by its adherents to be the swiftest vehicle for progress on the spiritual path, however it is also considered a path that comes with risks. For that reason, it is not to be entered carelessly, and student of Buddhism must consider carefully whether the Vajrayana is the right path for them. In particular, they should have studied the topics of the Lam Rim thoroughly. They should have also researched the teacher bestowing the empowerment diligently, so that they are confident in adopting the teacher-disciple relationship that is established one an empowerment is received, as this connection is of critical significance in Vajrayana practice. If you are unsure about whether you would are ready to receive this empowerment from Yangten Rinpoche, or if you have any other questions about this teaching, we would be happy to discuss this with you.
