Jorchö (Preparatory Practices for Buddhist Meditation) with Geshe Namdak
September 23, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
About this teaching
Geshe Namdak will be giving a teaching on Jorchö. These more extensive preliminary practices enable us to fully prepare our mind to generate realisations of the stages of the path to enlightenment, by allowing us to accumulate vast stores of merit and purify negative karma and obscurations. They include, for example, visualising the field of merit, taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, making a seven-limbed prayer, offering a mandala and ritual bath, and making requests to the gurus and lineage masters. Often done at the beginning of a meditation session, or as the first session of the day during retreat, each practice has a specific purpose, and combined together, provide practitioners with the most conducive internal conditions to make progress in their meditation on the Buddhist path.
Is this for me?
It will be assumed that students have some familiarity with the meditations of the Lam Rim and the Nalanda tradition of Buddhism in general.
