Meet some of our friends: Geoff Jukes

Meet Geoff, a long term friend of Jamyang.

When & how did your Journey with Jamyang begin?

In summer 1978 I attended a course with Lama Yeshe, Song Rinpoche, and Lama Zopa Rinpoche at Manjushri Institute in Cumbria. I asked Lama Yeshe if he would give his support and blessing to a centre in London. He was very supportive and enthusiastic, so forty-three year later with the blessings of so many teachers and the hard work of so many committed to evolving Lama’s vision, here we are!

What does it mean to have a centre like Jamyang in London?

The potential is huge, wonderful. So necessary to have a place of kindness, holding a view in accordance with the reality of our condition, especially in current circumstances.

What does the Jamyang community mean to you?

It has been wonderful to see the evolution of Jamyang and be able to be a small part of this process.

The centre, its role in bringing Dharma to the West and its relevance to the local community is so important in these times and will continue to be so.

What are your visions for the future Jamyang community?

Wow, such extraordinary possibilities in these times.

That it stays relevant to the wider community, helps bring Dharma to the West in both traditional and evolving forms. Buddhadharma has always found a way of expression in accordance with the culture and traditions where it has taken root e.g. Japan, Burma, Tibet and now the West and other cultures on our wonderful planet.

That the community is of service to the local people.

That Jamyang always has wonderful teachers in residence and visiting, they are the beating heart of Jamyang and we have been so blessed by the qualities of our resident teachers, Geshe WangchenGeshe Tashi and now Geshe Namdak.

That the community evolves with compassion at its heart, always offering Dharma teachings without insisting on payment and never becomes just an academic process or a commercial business. If the Jamyang community is generous supporters will be too.

That Osel is always welcome and his vision listened to, he is starting to come into his own, please help and encourage him.

That programmes are evolved for young ones, Lama’s vision of Universal Education, echoed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama is so important in these times.
