Khen Rinpoche Geshe Tashi Tsering’s recent meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama marks a significant turning point in his career. Having submitted his resignation as Abbot of Sera Mey Monastery, Geshe la has accepted the esteemed role of Director at the Dalai Lama Centre for Tibetan and Ancient Indian Wisdom in Bodhgaya. This announcement comes amid the Center’s mission to realize His Holiness’s vision of establishing a modern-day Nalanda in India. With its foundation stone laid by His Holiness in January 2023, the project is set to catalyze the revival of ancient wisdom traditions.
The HHDL Centre for Tibetan and Ancient Indian Wisdom aims to bridge the gap between ancient knowledge and contemporary challenges. As articulated by the Honourable Kiren Rijiju, Minister for Law and Justice in the Indian Central Government, and Professor Samdhong Rinpoché, the Center emphasizes reason, logic, and the science of the mind. This resonates with His Holiness’s belief that such wisdom, nurtured by luminaries like Nagarjuna, Aryadeva, and Chandrakirti, transcends religious boundaries and offers valuable insights into human consciousness.
In a world increasingly yearning for peace and fulfillment, the Center’s mission gains relevance. By fostering dialogue and exchange of ideas rooted in reason and logic, it seeks to restore ancient Indian knowledge traditions to their rightful place. As Geshe la prepares to spearhead this transformative initiative over the summer, anticipation grows for the impact the Center will have on global discourse and the pursuit of holistic well-being.
