Jamyang’s Sangha News: The Monastic Community is Growing!

We are so pleased to announce that two of our team members, Venerables Wangyal (formerly known at Kamlo, our Spiritual Programme Coordinator) and Konchok (formerly Adam, our tech assistant), have ‘gone forth’ and taken ordination.

The community of ordained sangha based at Jamyang Buddhist Centre London has now reached five, four of whom live at Jamyang Buddhist Centre London.

We’re also laying the foundation for a few more to join us – a monastic residency programme, inviting sangha to be in community with us, will be launching soon.

The words of the Buddha encouraging his sangha to go out in the world come to mind: “Go forth, O Bhikkhus, for the good of many, for the happiness of many, out of compassion for the world, for the good, benefit and happiness of gods and humans.”

Having more monastics in an urban centre is an inspiration, and a responsibility – how do we support our sangha to live in the vows, that they may thrive and benefit the community. In this, we are enormously fortunate to have such an inspiring role model and guide in our resident teacher, Geshe Tenzin Namdak, who’s knowledge of and adherence to monastic discipline is impeccable. From a practical point of view also, plans  for suitable monastic accommodation are already underway and more will be shared soon.

So here we are, almost 2600 years later, in the heart of London, a thriving community of lay practitioners and ordained, supporting and inspiring each other, being a vibrant positive presence for all who come, from all walks of life.
