Lama Dagpo Rinpoche

We are exceptionally fortunate to have the chance to host the teachings of Lama Dagpo Rinpoche from Saturday to Sunday, 16th to 17th December, online, featuring ‘The Sealed Bodhicitta Instruction.’ This is an incredibly valuable opportunity. Explore more details about Lama Dagpo Rinpoche in this post.

Lama Dagpo Rinpoche

Lama Dagpo Rinpoche was born in 1932 in Tibet and, at a very young age, was recognised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as a reincarnation of an influential Buddhist teacher.

Guided by some of the greatest Tibetan masters, including the tutors of the Dalai Lama, Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche and Kyabje Ling Rinpoche, the fourteenth Dalai Lama himself and the Mongolian master Geshe Ngawang Nyima, Lama Dagpo Rinpoche was educated in the purest and strictest monastic tradition.

In 1959, Lama Dagpo Rinpoche sought refuge in India. In less than a year, he received an invitation from the Rockefeller Foundation to relocate to France and support French Tibetologists in their scientific research. From 1961 until his retirement in 1993, Rinpoche taught Tibetan language, civilisation, and Buddhism at the School of Oriental Studies (I.Na.L.C.O.), a component of the Sorbonne. He also collaborated on several books concerning Tibet and Buddhism.

Since the late seventies, Lama Dagpo Rinpoche has been imparting his extensive knowledge of Buddhism to a wide audience. He has undertaken extensive travels, offering guidance to students and establishing numerous centres worldwide dedicated to the study and practice of Buddhism.

In 1978, Lama Dagpo Rinpoche established a Dharma centre in France, which was granted Buddhist congregation status by the French state and later evolved into the Ganden Ling Institute in 1995. In 2005, a new temple was inaugurated in Veneux-les-Sablons, where study weekends and retreats under Lama Dagpo Rinpoche’s guidance are regularly conducted. Additionally, he has initiated the establishment of further Dharma centres in the South of France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India.
