Hi Edita, what helped me are the following thoughts – our conciousness is beginningless and endless, it is not material/matter. Matter will end some time. Impermanence. Conciousness is clear and knowing. It cannot be destroyed even by the Buddha. Therefore it will go on and on and on. Then there is Karma, the natural law of cause and effect. Our afflictions, they can be overcome, but at the moment they just state our wrong view, that is not reality. Every action will lead do something – as stated in the 12 links. There is no way out unless we realize emptiness. When it will go on and on – logically there will be a rebirth – depending on our Karma.
I also found the book of Pim van Lommel useful and in chapter 15 – he lists that in many cultures reincarnation was a accepted view like with the Egyptian, the Romans, the Greek (Platon!) the Celts even the north indian tribes, the Mayas, Inkas, tribes in Africa and the Aborigins of Australia.

Hi Jared, sorry, I know – this has nothing to do with the subject in this blog, but – on the Metta Sutra:

did you ever think about the last sentences in this Sutra:

By not holding to fixed views,
The pure-hearted one, having clarity of vision,
Being freed from all sense desires,
Is not born again into this world.

Should this not -Bodhisattva like – say sth like – fullfilled by Bodhicitta will be born again into this world? Hmmm?!
    What do you think?

Thanks from me also – to whoever has led the med. session so far. I did not feel it was too intense today.
@Jared – did you resite the Metta Sutra today? I am looking for the english version – could not find it on fpmt.org
Any chance to mail it to me (and who ever is interested too)?
